JPEG Saver
"JPEG Saver" is a fast, easy way to compress images. It's great when you want to:
It is designed to be quick and easy to use, even for non-technical users. It can automatically show the differences between the compressed and original images, so you can choose the very best compression level.
You are welcome to download the current version (version 2.2). You need the Microsoft .NET Framework to run it. You can also download the source code, if you wish.
The JPEG Saver in Action:
![]() To use the JPEG Saver:
1. Open the image that you want to compress as a JPEG. There are 3 ways to do this:
2. Change the size and quality (i.e. compression) of the image with the two trackbar controls ("Size" and "Quality"). As you do so, the on-screen image will be updated. Choose the size you want, then reduce the "Quality" setting as far as you can without actually making the image look bad. The readout below the trackbars displays the size of the resulting file.
If you want to compare your image with the original, choose the "Original" radio button displayed above the image.
You can check "Highlight Differences" to have the program automatically switch between the original and compressed versions. As it does so, the differences will "flicker", making them easy to see. You can get good results by dragging the quality down until the image just starts to flicker, and then dragging it back up slightly.
3. Choose the Save or Save As button.
(The fine print: The JPEG Saver is free software, provided 'as-is', without any express or implied warranty. It is tested carefully before it is released. In the unlikely event of a problem, please let me know so that I can fix the bug promptly. See this page for contact details.)
